Loctite Frekote R220 is a mold release that offers excellent release and slip properties for the most demanding rubber mold applicaiton.
Loctite Frekote R220 is a fast curing, non-flammable, multiple releases, water based emulsion. This advance material provides excellent release and slip properties and is recommended for rubber molding applications including EPDM rubber. The chemical will also release thermoplastic urethanes and solid polyurethane cast elastomers. When properly applied to a preheated surface, the water based product will chemically bond to the mold surface and form a thin, thermally stable coating. This innovative product is known as Frekote Aqualine R-220.
Frekote R220 application temperature is between 60° to 205°C. It has a specific gravity of 0.95 to 1.06 at room temperature and it has a pH of 3.9 to 4.1. The appearance is a milky white emulsion that is freeze/thaw stable. Being aqueous, Frekote R220 does not have a flash point. When used for hot mold surfaces (120°C to 205°C), six coats should be applied and allowed to dry prior to production. Specific gravity is approximately 1 and VOC content is 2% per 20 g/l. The water based emulsion will be stable under normal conditions of storage.
Before applying, mold surfaces need to be cleaned and dried. Any trace of prior release must be removed. This is possible by using Frekote PMC or other suitable cleaners. Optimum performance will be achieved when molds are cleaned prior to using Loctite Frekote R220. Apply the material to molds preheated to a minimum of 60°C. The product will dry in a few seconds and will be fully cured after 25 minutes. At 93°C, cure time will take only 10 minutes. Temperatures above 120°C will require a minimum of 4 coats for optimal performance.
