Epibond 420 A/B is an innovative structural epoxy adhesive that meets the requirements of BMS 5-107. This room temperature cure paste is extremely tough and resilient on a wide variety of honey comb, metal and fiber-reinforced composite applications that require good peel strength and high sheer strength.
Epibond 420 is a two part, modified epoxy adhesive system designed for aerospace applications. The mix ratio of this product is 100 parts by weight of Epibond 420-A resin to 40 parts by weight of Epibond 420-B hardener. If mixed properly, the material will have a blue-green color which will indicate complete blending. This adhesive is also capable of being mixed at 2:1 parts by volume which is available Accumix cartridges with mixing nozzles. It will take about 7 days at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius for a full cure. If time is a factor, heat cure can be used. The product will gel at room temperature plus 120 minutes at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius, 90 minutes at 79 degrees Celsius or in one hour at 121 degrees Celsius. Once the material is applied to the substrates, there will be a working time of about 70 minutes before it begins to gel over.
When handling Epibond 420 A/B it is important to understand the proper application methods and storage information to ensure the material will provide the proper adhesion it was intended for. This modified epoxy needs to be stored in its tightly sealed container in a dry location at temperatures between 16 and 38 degrees Celsius. Under these conditions, the shelf life will be 12 months from the date of shipping from the Huntsman Corporation. It’s recommended to have the material above a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius when mixing. Epibond 420 is designed for industrial use only. When using this epoxy product it is important to have adequate ventilation. If there is inadequate ventilation, wear respiratory protection that is based on the anticipated exposure level. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Epibond 420 A/B Structural Adhesive replaces REDUX 410 NA Epoxy Adhesive.
