Araldite 1570 FST A/B adhesive is a fire-resistant and halogen-free epoxy based adhesive which is formulated to meet the stringent requirements in the refurbishing and modification of aircrafts in the aerospace industry. It’s excellent for bonding sound attenuation panels in cargo aircraft which will result to considerable noise and vibration reduction.
Araldite adhesives is manufactured by Huntsman Corporation, a global chemical company which is one of the world’s leaders in Diphenylmethane Discocyanate (MDI), polyurethane catalysts, epoxy adhesives, epoxy powder coating system, aerospace composites, electronic encapsulation, electrical insulating materials and many other products. These highly advanced and high-performance materials are used extensively in the assembly, fabrication and repair of interior and exterior aircraft components.
The flame retardant property of Araldite 1570 Adhesive has attracted companies such as Boeing, Airbus, Goodrich, Gulfstream, Bombardier, Bell, Rohr and many more. It is a qualified adhesive that has been approved in Structural Repair Manuals and Service Bulletins. Araldite adhesives have a self- extinguishing feature that has significant importance when used in highly flammable areas.
A fire test conducted on the material treated with Araldite 1570 FST, where it is exposed directly and consistently to a flame for several seconds showed that the material didn’t support combustion. The lack of support in combustion stopped the fire in the material to grow because the adhesive self-extinguished. This displayed that Araldite 1570 A/B Adhesive is a great product to be used in highly flammable areas on vital equipment. Normally a layer 0.05 to 0.10 mm thick of adhesive will provide the strongest strength to the joined surfaces. These joined surfaces should be secured in a fixed position when the adhesive is applied. The product’s recommended cycle time of curing is 48 hours at 23°C. Araldite 1570 FST AB should be stored in original container shielded from direct sunlight and placed in a dry and well-ventilated area. Its expected life is about 12 months when kept at a temperature of 2-8°C.
When Araldite 1570 FST is used for bonding materials there should be proper treatment of the surface in order to get the maximum strength and durability. The preparation of the surface to be joined includes a thorough cleaning, utilizing a high-quality degreasing agents in order to eliminate all traces of oil, grease, dirt, etc. One of the most proven methods to obtain the strongest and long-lasting joints is to mechanically scrape or chemically etch the degreased areas. After applying the first treatment of degreasing, it should be repeated to ensure the best result of the adhesive.
The application of Araldite 1570 FST AB is a very important process. The two parts A & B should be thoroughly mixed and applied either manually or mechanically to the pretreated surfaces.
